Stellar Stats!

In the 2007-2008 school year, we were able to...

...Visit 48 schools

...Attend 35 special events

Dental Health Education is a key component of the St. David’s Dental Program and is an important tool for ending dental disease. Presentations are offered for both children and adults. To schedule a dental health presentation, contact us!

Classroom Presentations:

Each dental presentation helps school-aged children understand the importance of their teeth, learn ways to keep their mouths healthy, and develop good dental health care habits using fun and interactive demonstrations, experiments, and games.

The lesson plans, activities, and handouts in this program are age- and grade-specific. Each 15-20 minute classroom presentation covers several oral health concepts, including:

  • Proper brushing techniques using an entertaining dental puppet
  • Distribution of educational materials, toothbrushes, toothpaste, coloring books, and culturally appropriate handouts
  • Discussion of healthy foods and beverages for oral and general health

Parent Presentations:

The purpose of the Parent Dental Education Classes is to educate, inform, and remind parents about proper dental hygiene instruction and appropriate nutrition for themselves and their families. As part of the interactive, participatory approach to dental health education, parents are encouraged to ask any questions and/or make any comments. Each interactive presentation involves open discussions about:

  • The importance of parental involvement in encouraging positive dental health practices
  • Preventing "baby bottle" tooth decay
  • Proper brushing and flossing techniques
  • Proper oral health care and nutrition
  • Healthy food and drink options

In addition, bilingual dental health materials, publications, and dental products are distributed at the end of each presentation.
