Healthy Smiles

St. David’s Foundation is committed to bringing Healthy Smiles to Central Texas through the St. David’s Dental Program, a collaboration that brings mobile dental clinics to Title I schools and social service agencies in Travis, Williamson and Hays counties. The program brings free dental services to people who otherwise would not have access to care.

With one of the largest fleets of mobile dental clinics in the country, St. David’s Dental Program offers free dental screenings, sealants and acute care to children at Title I elementary schools across six school districts in Central Texas, as well as to adults referred by area safety net clinics and the Health Alliance of Austin Musicians (HAAM). Each of the six vans is equipped with two dental exam rooms, digital x-rays, and computer workstations. The vans are staffed by licensed dentists, hygienists, and dental assistants.

Through the St. David’s Dental Program in 2010:

  • 4,700 children received dental care at their schools
  • 28,000 children and their parents learned how to brush and floss their teeth properly
  • Local safety net clinics referred 1,300 adult patients, including 500 musicians through the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM).
  • The dental program provided $4.2 million in free dental services in Central Texas.
  • Community dentists volunteered to treat complex care referral patients in their offices free of charge.
