St. David’s Community Health Foundation is involved in multiple initiatives that focus on improving immunization rates in
Central Texas. In collaboration with the City of Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services, Texas Children’s Hospital, Texas Department of State Health Services, and the Indigent Care Collaboration, St. David’s Community Health Foundation is working to facilitate improvements with immunization information systems in Texas.
On April 23rd 2008, the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department (Office of the Medical Director) will host a National Infant Immunization Week conference to provide professional training to healthcare providers on pediatric immunizations. Through the support of corporate and not-for-profit organizations, participants will be provided lunch and continuing education (pending) on childhood immunizations. Speakers will also review the importance of immunization, the successes and challenges we have faced over the years, as well as those we see in our future. The conference will also provide information about Austin/Travis County immunization resources allowing healthcare providers to make better health recommendations for all families. The Foundation hosted a two-day summit in June 2006. ImmTech Strategies – Improving Immunization Information Systems: Paving the Way for a Totally Connected Texas engaged immunization stakeholders in discussing issues related to local and state immunization information systems and recommending strategies to enhance current systems in Texas.
St. David’s Foundation is also collaborating with the Travis County Medical Alliance, The UT-Austin School of Nursing's Children’s Wellness Center, and People’s Community Clinic to provide back-to-school immunizations for children who live in Travis County. Over 300 children received free immunizations in August of 2005 and more than 900 children were immunized during the summer of 2006.
