St. David's Community Health Foundation has established this scholarship program to honor our late president and CEO, W. Neal Kocurek.
Neal's leadership and collaboration skills helped shape the direction of many dimensions of the Central Texas region: health care, public education, higher education, social equity, transportation, and regional stewardship. A natural mentor, Neal was an advisor to generations of school superintendents and educators who served Austin children. His vision strengthened health services and access to health care for future generations of Central Texans.
A native Austinite, Neal never stopped learning and contributing to the community he loved. Our scholarship program seeks students that embody Neal's leadership and commitment to community.
Following are the application requirements for the W. Neal Kocurek scholarships (to be used during the 2007-2008 school year). The awarded scholarships will be used for tuition (up to $4,000 per year) only. In order to be eligible, the following requirements must be met:
1. You must be a 2007 graduating Senior within the Austin Independent School District.
2. You have been accepted at an accredited higher education college or university to pursue a degree in a healthcare related discipline.
3. You must attend an accredited Texas-based college or university as a full-time student (12+ units/semester).
4. If asked, you must be able to attend an in-person interview the week of March 26, 2007.
5. You must be a United States Citizen or a legal non-citizen resident.
6. You must pass a background check. There can be no conviction for violating any federal or state laws for alcohol or drugs.
7. The application, essay and photo must be received at St. David's Community Health Foundation by 4:00 p.m. on January 22, 2007. All other supporting materials must be received by 4:00 p.m. on February 16, 2007.
Consideration will be given in the review process to students who demonstrate financial need to pursue their higher education.
